What is Bitcoin?

If you’re not quite sure what Bitcoin is (or why you should care), have no fear—you’re not alone.

In a 2013 poll of Americans, Bloomberg discovered that:

  • 6% thought Bitcoin was a new iPhone app,
  • 6% thought Bitcoin was an Xbox game, and
  • 46% weren’t sure what Bitcoin was.

Less than half of those surveyed could correctly identify Bitcoin as a virtual currency.
